Our Story
Creating a home where dignity, tradition, and daily comfort are carefully woven together
Return HomeThe sillveerlooma Beginning
sillveerlooma opened in early 2019 with a simple purpose: to create a residential setting where older adults could live with dignity, comfort, and meaningful connection. The founders, a Thai family with roots in Chiang Mai's artisan community, had watched as their own parents aged and recognized a need for care that honored tradition while embracing modern comforts.
The name sillveerlooma comes from the silk weaving traditions of Northern Thailand. Just as each thread contributes to a larger pattern, every resident, staff member, and family brings something to the fabric of daily life here. The setting itself reflects this philosophy. Rooms are furnished with teak and handwoven textiles. Common areas are arranged to encourage both quiet reflection and shared conversation. Gardens are tended with care, offering spaces for morning walks and evening stillness.
From the beginning, sillveerlooma has approached care differently. Rather than focusing on what residents cannot do, the emphasis is on preserving what they can and want to do. Staff members are trained to offer support that respects autonomy. Meal times are social occasions, not scheduled obligations. Activities draw on Chiang Mai's cultural heritage, from silk weaving to temple visits, always framed as invitations rather than requirements.
Today, sillveerlooma serves as home to individuals from across Thailand and abroad. Some choose the shared warmth of the Heritage Room, others the dedicated attention of the Silk Suite. What unites them is a desire for living arrangements that feel less like institutional care and more like a thoughtfully managed household where personal preferences matter, where routines can be flexible, and where each day holds space for both purpose and peace.
Our Approach to Care
Guiding principles that shape daily life at sillveerlooma
Respect for Autonomy
We believe that support should enhance independence, not replace it. Residents maintain control over their routines, preferences, and choices about how they spend their days.
Cultural Sensitivity
Chiang Mai's Lanna traditions inform our approach. From the architecture to the activities, we honor the cultural context that gives meaning to daily living.
Community Connection
Isolation diminishes quality of life. We create opportunities for genuine companionship through shared meals, activities, and spaces designed for conversation.

Understanding Residential Care in Chiang Mai
Residential care serves individuals who value independence yet appreciate daily support with routines, meals, and household tasks. Unlike medical facilities, residential settings focus on quality of life, social connection, and preservation of personal autonomy. sillveerlooma operates within this framework, providing a comfortable living environment where residents maintain their own healthcare arrangements with external providers while receiving assistance with daily activities.
Chiang Mai offers unique advantages for residential care. The climate allows for year-round outdoor activities. The cultural emphasis on respect for elders creates a welcoming social context. Local artisan traditions provide rich material for meaningful activities. The city's infrastructure supports access to medical facilities, cultural sites, and family visits from both within Thailand and abroad.
Choosing residential care often involves balancing multiple considerations: proximity to family, cultural environment, cost, level of support needed, and personal preferences about daily life. Some families seek arrangements where aging parents can remain in familiar cultural surroundings while receiving more support than independent living allows. Others appreciate the structure and social opportunities that residential settings provide. The decision is deeply personal and varies based on individual circumstances.
At sillveerlooma, our role is to provide accurate information about what we offer, answer questions openly, and help families assess whether our approach aligns with their needs. Visiting the residence, meeting staff, and seeing the rooms and common areas firsthand typically helps clarify whether sillveerlooma feels like the right fit. We encourage families to take the time they need to make informed decisions about care arrangements.
